Tamsen Thorpe, Ph.D. Dr. Tamsen Thorpe is a Psychologist and Director at Directions – A Center for Life Strategies in Morristown, NJ focusing on adults and couples. She was educated locally at Drew University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with an undergraduate degree in Psychology.

Dr. Thorpe earned her master's degree in Organizational Psychology at Stevens Institute of Technology. This was followed by a research career in New York City Corporations. She then earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at The California School of Professional Psychology in 1997.

Health Psychology was her chosen emphasis of study. Internships were in a medical hospital with oncology patients and an Employee Assistance Program. Postdoctoral training at UCLA included a year long rotation in the Anxiety Disorders Clinic. Employment at UCLA was in the area of family/genetic research. Dr. Thorpe has further specialized training in the areas of couple’s counseling, infertility, sexuality, work place issues as well as stress reduction, parent coordination, family mediation and collaborative divorce.

Dr. Thorpe has conducted seminars at Honeywell, Pfizer, Cendant and Novartis on such topics as Stress Management, Emotional Intelligence and Relationships. She frequently is a guest lecturer at venues such as the New Jersey State Bar Association, Morris County Chamber of Commerce and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE).

Komal Dutt, PhD. Dr. Komal Dutt received her Ph.D. from State University of New York at Albany. She has completed an American Psychological Association approved internship at University of Pittsburgh Counseling Center and has completed her post-doctoral training at Drew University Counseling Center. She has also worked at a community mental health center in upstate N.Y. She received a Masters in Organizational Behavior from University of Delhi, India. As a part of this program she worked as an intern in the H.R. department at a large corporation. Her experience in business, especially H.R., provides her with the insight into the opportunities and challenges facing professionals.

She is skilled in treatment of depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, self-esteem, body-image, women’s, and career related issues. She also has experience and training in helping people with stress management, distress tolerance (using Dialectical Behavioral therapy skills), and dealing with shyness. Her counseling/psychotherapy is based primarily on tenets of Self-Psychology and Humanistic psychologies. Therefore, her goals are determined by the goals the clients see for themselves, and are often based on symptom management.

Dr. Komal Dutt can help people regulate emotions that upset them, manage their thinking if it has a role in their distress level, and develop skills that will help them towards greater emotional well being. Being a self-psychologist, she helps people towards self-enhancement as defined and experienced by them. Her personal interests are traveling, learning about different cultures, and spending time with her two children.

Michelle Solino , LPC, NCC. Michelle Solino, LPC, NCC, has been practicing individual and group counseling in the tri-state area for over 6 years. She has years of field experience in individual, group, and family therapy sessions, along with crisis intervention and complete biopsychosocial assessments.

Before joining a private practice, Michelle was a leading member of the Overlook Medical Center Eating Disorder Program and a volunteer for the Morristown Memorial Health Foundation. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and a graduate of Monmouth University with a M.S. in Mental Health Counseling.

Michelle worked as part of an interdisciplinary team at Overlook Hospital to develop customized treatment plans for patients with dual diagnoses, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, aggression, and self-harming behaviors. As a Junior Olympic gold medalist in Tae Kwon Do, Michelle observed the pressures of perfectionism and body image among her peers within the elite athletic community. Although Michelle continues to work with patients from all walks of life, her experiences in elite athletic competition inspired her to pursue a specialty in eating disorder treatment among athletes.

She is currently pursuing a family-based therapy (FBT) certification (also known as Maudsley Approach), a highly specialized certification for therapists who work with eating disorder patients which boasts one of the highest rates of recovery in the field.

Derek Brand, LCSW. Derek Brand, LCSW, earned his Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from New York University in 2007. His chosen emphasis was clinical work with children and families. He has since taken numerous advanced trainings to keep current in this area, which has included completing a Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral therapy program from the Cares Institute in 2009 and an intensive two-year Family Therapy Certificate Training Program at the Multicultural Family Institute in 2012.

Derek has over 10 years of therapy experience treating various ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. He has developed an acute sensitivity to the diversity of the human experience after having worked in multiple settings like full- and partial-hospitalization, in-home, and outpatient programs. He is highly skilled in his ability to bring a sense of calm in all levels of stress.
